CAMAGU Theatre and Dance Festival 2023
Free State Wombman In Theatre in association with PACOFS brings you the 2nd Annual CAMAGU Theatre and Dance Festival Curated By Lebo Leisa and Karabelo Plaatjie.
This is an alternative theatre and dance festival that is created by young, black female theatre practitioners in the Free State province, with the determination to invoke a desire in the youth to find out their roots and celebrate their cultures with pride, while taking the older generation on a nostalgic voyage of remembering who they are. The festival will showcase theatre and dance productions coming from different parts of South Africa, that promote our indigenous knowledge systems and cultural values through theatre.
This creative platform is meant to embrace, restore, celebrate our African Cultural identity, using theatre as a tool to reach out to different communities and to inspire local artists to create work with indigenous content.
We look at this mammoth task to celebrate and embrace our heritage by telling stories in our respective languages as different cultures that makes South Africa such a unique country. We will dance to the beat of our own drums and awaken in us the sense of pride in who we authentically are. Camagu!
