When Giants Fall

image_pdfimage_print

A requiem to Flaxman Qoopane by Tshiamo Malatji

When giants fall, they leave their presence in the ground

Their massive souls split, spreading and sharing itself with follower and friend
Some great shadow, once a cool comfort is carefully covered by dirt
To become seed in the soil.

Standing upon them once, were we
Now inspired to grow strength in bones and height in flesh
To become great shadow
To become giant

Death, greets giants to gravestone to grant rest
While the living learn to grow

Tshiamo Malatji is the reigning VryFees Poetry Slam champion.
